Otherwise known formally as “wishing spheres”.

From the Marina Bay Countdown webbie:

“Each wishing sphere represents a hope, a belief that the New Year will bring new possibilities and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Pen your wish for the New Year on the wishing sphere and we will mark your wish by floating it onto the waters of Marina Bay, the bay of hope and light.”

Isn’t that sweet?

After working nearly everyday at The Centrepoint’s wishing station way back when it was introduced in 2006, I was helming one of the booths once again for a few days this December.

Here’s what the outdoor booth looks like:

From TimeOut Singapore:

“Loosely based on the biblical story of David and Goliath, 100.3FM DJ Huang Wenhong’s one-man talk show offers a multimedia experience that presents a satirical look at what it’s like being small in a big world.”

A sign put up for the purpose of the recent Singapore Sun Festival got me and my colleagues up in arms over the word “photographing”.

“It should be ‘taking of photos’ lah!”

“‘photographing’ sounds so Singlish!”

I insisted that there IS such a word, and hmm… I’m right? Read the rest of this entry »
